In July and August 1944, the Allies undertook a series of operations to break the German front line in Normandy. The operations "Totalize" and "Tractable" aimed at pushing the Germans back to the south of the town of Falaise, thus encircling the German formations in the town. The course of the operations is described in detail in words and pictures.
