Till today, only a part of the stories of those secret agents who parachuted over Europe as agents of the SOE, BCRA or the German Abwehr during the Second World War is known. The author describes hitherto unknown agents' fates and recalls some successes and various tragedies of this fight in the dark.
But many of the parachute missions of Soviet and German agents in occupied or newly liberated Europe are hitherto completely unknown. The author describes these hitherto unnoticed missions and parallels them with many other infiltrations by parachute agents in Finland, Germany, Yugoslavia and elsewhere. The second half of the book surprises with revelations about the agents who parachuted behind the Iron Curtain in the early 1950s during the Cold War. Illustrated with mostly unpublished photos and documents, the author explains the recruitment, training and deployment of these parachute agents. The author also discusses the consequences of discovery in the form of arrest, interrogation, conviction and finally, in some cases, execution.
