As France prepares to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 2025, this work recounts the final months of the conflict through the eyes of French Army photographers. After the Normandy landings in the summer of 1944 and the liberation of Paris, the two armies from the west and south met in eastern France. This marked the beginning of the battle in the Vosges and then in Alsace, which shaped the autumn and winter of 1944-45 with the liberation of Mulhouse, Strasbourg and Colmar. At the beginning of 1945, the campaign in Germany began and French troops advanced into enemy territory, crossing the Rhine at the end of March, capturing Stuttgart and marching into Austria. At the same time, German resistance zones were organised on the Atlantic front: the Atlantic pockets were the scene of terrible fighting until the end of the war.
