Salomon Ickovic was born in 1911 in a province of the Kingdom of Hungary that was soon to become part of Czechoslovakia. Like so many young Jews from modest backgrounds, he joined the Communist Party at a young age and began a life of fighting. In 1937, he joined the International Brigades in Spain before fleeing to France and joining the FTP-MOI resistance. Salomon Ickovic's destiny is irrevocably linked to the fight against Nazi barbarism. He carried out risky actions in France and Germany. Neither the arrests nor the deportation attempts he escaped could diminish his resolve. It is very rare to read first-hand memoirs of communist resistance fighters. These have not been published before. Salomon Ickovic describes his life from 1936 to 1944 in detail, with modesty and sincerity. The unknown fate of a young man who was willing to do anything to help freedom win.
