The Boeing E-4 Advanced Airborne Command Post, also known as the Nightwatch or unofficially as the "doomsday aircraft", serves the United States Air Force (USAF) as a flying command post in the event of a crisis. It is based on the Boeing 747-200B and, as the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC), is intended to ensure the command and control of the US government and armed forces when the land-based communications infrastructure has already been destroyed by war or natural disasters. Four examples of this aircraft were procured by the USAF in the 1970s.
