As early as the 1970s, Boeing began developing a successor to its best-selling medium-haul aircraft, the three-engine 727. The result was the twin-engine 757, which promised better performance and greater efficiency. No fewer than 1,050 aircraft rolled off the Boeing factory between 1981 and 2004. Specifically for medium-haul routes with high demand, such as those served by the German leisure airline Condor, a seven-meter-longer variant followed: the 757-300, which, with an overall length of 54.4 meters, is approved for up to 295 passengers in a single-class configuration. Condor, the first customer, received 15 aircraft starting in 1999 and, alongside Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines, was the largest operator of this variant. According to current plans, Condor's remaining eight 757-300s will be retired by the end of 2025 and replaced by new Airbus A321neos, which are already arriving. Four of these aircraft received the distinctive new livery. In the case of D-ABOL, the blue stripes are intended to evoke a desire for the sea and are sure to put vacationers in a good mood even before departure.
