In memory of the gold rush in Alaska shortly before the end of the 19th century, Alaska Airlines launched its "Golden Nugget Service" in the early 1960s. Not only was a new red and gold livery introduced, but the interior also appeared in red and gold tones. The flight attendants were dressed in period clothing and wore long velvet skirts, wide hats and shirts with puffed sleeves. From 1962 to 1968, Alaska Airlines operated two L-1649s as part of its own route network and for military charters. This Starliner, along with two others, was later purchased by Lufthansa in order to restore it to airworthy condition. Unfortunately, the project was stopped and the future of N7316C remains uncertain.
