At the centre of this beautiful scene (after the famous painting by Menzel) is Frederick the Great, playing his beloved flute. Contemporaries report that the great king and brave soldier had stage fright before these concerts in his inner circle. Only after his old teacher Quantz gave him an approving nod did he appear more relaxed. In addition to members of the court chapel, the series shows people close to the king.
