The book describes experiences during the Russian-Ukrainian war, beginning with the battle for Kyiv in February 2022 and the first three years of the full-scale invasion. With personal accounts of events on the ground and additional background information on Ukraine, Accidental Ukrainians allows readers to experience the Russian-Ukrainian war through the eyes of two American civilians who travelled to Ukraine without any political or personal agenda. Many of the chapters were written while events were still unfolding, capturing the reality of war as well as how people survive and cope with daily challenges. The book describes in detail the ongoing rocket attacks, the search for work in a war zone, their voluntary assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as personal details about their lives and the stresses that living in a war zone can bring. It also includes descriptions of Ukraine, its traditions and way of life.
