East Prussia 1944/1945. A young soldier, just 18 years old, experiences the last three months at the front in East Prussia. The very first night leads to an immense disillusionment and makes him feel the full horror of war. The experiences are devastating - cold, wet, lack of sleep, inadequate equipment and training quickly cause doubts to grow about the political and military leadership. As a wounded man, the author experienced the indescribable misery of refugees. Only helpfulness and rare moments of human closeness gave him enough strength to survive the hardships.
