Carl Anton Graf von Wedel took part in the Russian campaign of 1812 as a lieutenant in a Polish regiment. He met Napoleon I and Marshal Murat, among others. After the fire of Moscow, he was captured by the Russians during the retreat. He managed to return from this captivity to East Frisia. Following his return, he took part in the wars of liberation under Field Marshal Blücher. After this time he became Droste in the Kingdom of Hanover, Chancellor of the University of Göttingen and Minister of Education. Reprint of the edition Berlin 1897. 309 pages.
