As the largest mass battle of its era, the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 remains a fascinating subject. Foremost among its compelling aspects is the sheer scale of the forces involved, concentrated within a relatively confined area. Consequently, casualty figures were staggeringestimated at 100,000 soldiers, alongside countless local inhabitants who perished from typhus. A contrasting, more glamorous aspect concerns the high-ranking military officers presentparticularly the ten Napoleonic Marshals. Such a large gathering of these military grandees in a single location occurred only once: at Leipzig in 1813. The study also uncovers lesser-known details, such as the presence of Portuguese troops fighting on Napoleon's side and the description of Lößnig as a specific site of combat.
