This is an annotated new edition of Napoleon's comments on the Seven Years' War, which he dictated on St Helena and which were last published during the Second Empire. After a brief historical introduction, this Précis des guerres de Frédéric II takes up the comments Napoleon dictated during his exile on the island of St Helena. In it, he discusses each of the campaigns from 1756 to 1762 and supplements them with thirty tactical and strategic observations. The work concludes with Napoleon's more general reflections on the Seven Years' War. This analysis, which the emperor compiled on the basis of his own political and military experiences, is of great interest, as these comments are among the few writings he produced under his dictation on his own military concepts. In this respect, the Précis is a masterpiece of Napoleonic strategy.
