Colonel Hans-Ulrich Rudel joined the Luftwaffe voluntarily at the age of 20 and made a steep career there up to Commodore of the "Immelmann" battle squadron. He personally shot down 519 Soviet tanks in 2,530 enemy flights as a Stuka pilot. Born in Silesia, he lost a leg in February 1945 and remained true to his old political convictions after the war - among other things as a speaker for the German Reich Party (DRP).
