The Latvian divisions in the fight against the Red Army.
Hardly any other division of the German army has been mentioned by name in the Wehrmacht report as often as the 19th (Latvian) SS Volunteer Division. Immediately after the occupation of the Baltic States in the summer of 1941, countless Latvian volunteers enlisted. They were organised into two divisions and several combat groups to form the Latvian Corps. They were on the front line in the battle for Pomerania, and Fusilier Battalion 15 of the 15th (Latvian) SS Volunteer Division was involved in the final battle for Berlin. With only 80 men left, this small Latvian combat group defended the Reich Security Main Office building in the government district.
