Already a member of the Danish National Socialists before the German occupation of Denmark, Pedersen volunteered when it came time to fight the USSR in 1941. In the 5th SS Division "Wiking" he earned his first spurs on the Mius Front, received special training on the grenade launcher and took part in the capture of Rostov in 1942 with a heavy machine gun group of the SS Regiment "Nordland" as well as in the following advance into the Caucasus. Back on the Eastern Front from February 1944, the author, who was eventually promoted to SS-Unterscharführer, went through the hell of the defensive battles near Leningrad, on the Narva, at Lake Peipus and finally in the Kurlandkessel. After being evacuated across the Baltic Sea to Stettin, he took part in the heavy-loss battles in Pomerania in 1945. This was followed by escape, imprisonment and imprisonment in Denmark.
