In 1941, the Freikorps "Danmark" was formed from Danish volunteers, which saw action in the Demjansk Kessel in 1942. In 1943, it was transferred to the SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Regiment "Danmark". The Dutch and Scandinavian volunteers who did not serve in the 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking" were combined into a separate unit in 1943: The 11th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland" was born. In 1943/44, it fought at the Oranienbaum Cauldron, near Narwa, in the Kurland Cauldron, in 1945 in Pomerania and was finally wiped out in the final battles for Berlin.
