This overview has been written with a certain scope in mind and cannot, of course, replace a "complete history" of the Imperial Japanese Navy, for which whole series of volumes would be necessary. Since it can be assumed that the history of the Japanese navy in the 20th century is better known than its prehistory and its construction in the 19th century, more space has been given to these areas and also the training of sailors and officers as the basis of the fleet's construction has been emphasised.
Due to the expected smaller readership, this German edition has been somewhat shortened by the author compared to the English one. Those who wish to enjoy the book in its completeness should therefore refer to the English edition.
