With the January-March 2001 issue, the Historical Office of the Navy began regularly publishing an important and useful statistical work by Francesco Mattesini on the losses of British, American and other Allied warships and merchant ships. The list and more or less summary description of these losses, which occurred in the Mediterranean during the Second World War as a result of acts of war by the Italian and German air and naval forces, shipwrecks or other causes, contains statistics and essential information on the causes of the sinkings, which the author, well known in historical circles, has compiled over many years of meticulous research.
