This book traces in pictures the epic journey of the American 101st Airborne Division during its first combat mission in Normandy. The fourth volume in a ten-part series with a total of over 3,000 pages and 4,000 photos is dedicated to the establishment of command posts in the early hours of D-Day around drop zone C, Sainte-Marie-du-Mont and Hiesville. The photos are organised according to the locations of the 101st Airborne Division's battles and most of them are accompanied by captions. This alone represents previously unavailable information. More than thirty years of research and investigation were necessary to identify them. This book is a combination of three collections of historical photographs and is undoubtedly the most impressive collection in the world. To create it, Mark Bando, an American historian of the 101st, teamed up with Emmanuel Allain and Michel De Trez, founders of the D-Day Experience Museum, to pool their knowledge and collections. Mark Bando began collecting eyewitness accounts when most of us weren't even born.
