The 3.7cm Flak 18 was a small anti-aircraft gun based on the 2cm Flak 30 but enlarged to give greater range and power. Developed by Rheinmetall-Borsig in 1935, the Flak 18 was built in small numbers and saw limited service. It was replaced by the 3.7cm Flak 36 which reduced the weight from 1757 kg to 1544 kg. The 3.7cm Flak 36 was normally mounted on a 2-wheel carriage, or mounted on a light vehicles such as the SdKfz.6 or 7 and sWS half tracks. Rate of fire was a respectable 160 rpm and the effective range was 2,000 meters. It was replaced in production by the 37cm Flak 37 in 1942, which had an improved sighting system. Most older guns were modified to the new standard by the end of the war.
