"Panther", the sonorous name of a top German tank in World War II, has inspired many authors to describe it. Unfortunately, trivial publications without strict use of primary sources, with a mediocre content structure and unchecked adoption of dubious third-party findings predominate. Those who wanted to inform themselves properly about development and technology relied heavily on the books by Tom L. Jentz and Walter Spielberger. Both renowned authors, however, held back with assessments and evaluations, but concentrated on the aspect of "description". These contents are not revisited in the present book. Instead, Frank Köhler goes an important step further by examining all the essential system features of this tank, some of which were very innovative for the time, and - this is what is special about this book - subjecting them to a proper technical evaluation with the inclusion of numerous, hitherto unknown details and illustrations.
