The author does not limit his account to the background, course and consequences of various sieges of the early modern period, including Cefalonia, Maastricht, Cadiz and Breda, but also deals with the different methods of attack and defence in siege warfare of this period as well as the weapons used. Of course, the increasingly sophisticated fortifications are also subjected to scrutiny.
