Descriptionof Die kurze Globalgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Wie sich unsere Welt verändert hat

It was not only the great catastrophes, revolutions and wars that shaped the 20th century. Whether mobility, equality or decolonisation: the world as it was still familiar to visitors to the World's Fair in Paris in 1900 changed faster than in any other century before. History professor R. Keith Schoppa took an in-depth look at the major and minor events that influenced the course of history.
In addition to the important cuts in cultural and social history, he focused in particular on events that are not to be found in all history books. How did contemporary witnesses experience the manifold changes in their living environment? The author focuses on individual and local identity, nation-state identity as well as the identity of global communities. In each chapter of his world history book, he explicitly focuses on five men and women and examines their impact on social and cultural history. Most of them were not major figures in contemporary history, but they all left far-reaching traces. From a world without aeroplanes to a global village, connected by the internet: An exciting insight into the changes of the 20th century!
