It represents the dog Moustache, a Barbet who since he as a puppy lived with the 40th infantry regiment of the French Army for more than 10 years, and who was the protagonist of several heroic acts during the campaigns of Napoleon's Grande Armée. This scene, located in the battle of Austerlitz, is about the moment in which he single-handledly defended the regiment's dying porte-aigle, thus preventing russian troops from storming the Eagle of the 40th Reg. This action earned him a decoration awarded by the General Lannes himself, so we speak about a true history.
