Based on an extensive collection of German primary sources, including logbooks of more than 50 Luftwaffe pilots, personal diaries and an equally impressive amount of Soviet primary sources, the authors are currently finalising the text of the book. All of this will be supported by many never before published photographs and will be published in the usual high quality of all Air War Publications products. The aim of the narrative is to give the reader a detailed understanding of the efforts and actions of the German night fighters on the Eastern Front and outline the many challenges they faced, including, but not limited to, the lack of training of many pilots and aircrew originally involved in such missions. With eyewitness accounts from both sides of the air war, as well as a careful analysis of tactics, operations and equipment, Sven, Morten and Adam fit the story into the bigger picture of the war on the Eastern Front between 1941 and 1945. The night air war in the East was a rather spontaneous affair from a German perspective, involving only a handful of units, aircraft and crews. Most of the activity took place in the central section of the Eastern Front, especially during major ground operations. Also covered in the book are radar platoons, the fight against Soviet supply flights for their partisans behind German lines, and spontaneous and alternative ways for the Luftwaffe to combat Soviet air activity at night throughout the Eastern Front.
