After the battle at Wounded Knee in 1890, the fighting with the Plains Indians came to an end. The U.S. Cavalry subsequently fought against the Spanish in Cuba in 1898, against Pancho Villa in Mexico in 1916, and in France during World War I in 1917/18. Pershing and Patton were members of the American Cavalry.
