Description
Volume 21 of the series "Potsdamer Schriften zur Militärgeschichte". Germany is one of the leading economic nations and is highly dependent on free trade across the world's oceans. However, the use of the open seas has been impaired for years by attacks by pirates. Yet piracy is not a new phenomenon, but as old as trade at sea and shipping in general and has nothing to do with a Hollywood-style romanticism. Due to the topicality and relevance of the subject in the present, this volume is dedicated to the phenomenon of piracy from its historical side. Four contributions span an arc from ancient history to the operations of the Bundeswehr, with the focus of the research being on modern times.
