Description
Born in Salzungen in 1838, Georg Luther sets out for America like so many other Germans, as a late successor to the 1848 revolutionaries. He expected one thing first and foremost: freedom. Having escaped the oppressive confines of his small town in Thuringia, escaping persecution by the authorities, he set foot in New York on the soil of the New World.
Full of restlessness, always in search of a free life, he travels through the USA, spinning dreams and burying them again. Finally, he finds himself in the middle of the Civil War. Karl Döbling has gone in search of clues. The studied Germanist and historian has dug into the depths of the history of the small town of Bad Salzungen and that of the vast America and unearthed a biographical-historical as well as literary treasure.
