The author draws a critical picture of the appeasement policy of the Western powers in the run-up to World War 2. Despite clear violations of international law, states such as France and Great Britain did not call the German Reich to account. Only the German attack on Poland on 1 September 1939 finally led to the West declaring war on Germany.
