During the first year of the war in 1915/16, powerful fortresses along the Italian-Austrian border, which ran through the Altipiani Cimbri and the Sette Comuni, fought bitter battles to destroy each other. Trapped in veritable death traps, brave soldiers exceeded all limits of human endurance and perseverance. Their sacrifice and deeds still echo in these mountains today. After five years of intensive and exciting research, the author has realised his dream of telling the story of the fortresses on the plateaus. These pages intertwine history and nature with a profound message of love, peace and brotherhood among people and a clear condemnation of all war and violence. The author's sensitive gaze gives a voice back to the young soldiers who were forced to fight in these places. Their memory lives on like an echo in the mountains, so that such tragedies will never be repeated.
