This major work of French military heritage, written by Lieutenant-Colonel Philippe Truttmann, has become the scholarly reference on the fortified system of the French new frontiers of 1918. From the first beginnings to the victims of the French fortress crews in May/June 1940. The aim of this new edition of this work, while retaining all the creative work, reflection and synthesis, is to revise the layout and, in particular, to insert an iconography created using the latest computer graphics techniques.

A four-year research and illustration effort was set in motion to realise this aim.
