February 1945: the Red Army is storming through the Polish plains and into eastern Germany, pushing back the German armies trying to stop it its goal: the Oder Valley, around Berlin, but also Breslau, the capital of Silesia. The latter region had been founded by German settlers as early as the 12th century. This German province had been spared from the war so far, but now it was brutally drawn into the war and Wroclaw was besieged and surrounded by the 6th Soviet Army for 80 days from February to May 1945. The author tells us step by step about this long siege, during which the capital of Silesia remained impregnable and surrendered only after the total surrender of the German army - a little-known page of history that deserves to be remembered. This historical account is accompanied by a rich iconography, some 120 photos.
