Spring 1416, a few days before Palm Sunday. Librarian Hilpert von Maulbronn arrives at the monastery of Bronnbach in the Tauber valley. As an inquisitor, he is supposed to get to the bottom of a secret brotherhood of satanic novices. However, he is unable to prevent the mysterious death of the abbey's prior or the bestial murder of a novice. And soon it seems that his own life is hanging by a thread.
