For more than half a century of modern warfare, military strategists and military tacticians have alternately praised and condemned the tank. With the introduction of nuclear weapons, effective anti-tank missiles and improved anti-tank mines, it seemed for a time that the end of the tank weapon had come. But armour technology also continued to develop, and so the role of the tank on the battlefield had to be redefined again and again - right up to the threshold of the new millennium and beyond. During many decades of armed conflict, firepower, mobility and armour protection proved to be the key concepts for the development and deployment of armoured combat vehicles. The concept of the armoured vehicle was constantly rethought, armoured vehicles were fitted with futuristic equipment and included in the military planning of almost all nations worldwide.
"Armoured vehicles of the post-war period 1945 - today" is a richly illustrated guide through the world of armoured vehicles since the end of World War 2:
Progress and background of all major land wars since World War 2 - Cold War and Korea, Vietnam and Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan, India against Pakistan, Croats against Serbs. Technical and tactical development from the "Cold War" to the present day, from the "Josef Stalin" tank to the rocket-propelled tank, from the main battle tank to the special vehicle. Detailed technical data on all classics and many exotics from all over the world - Leopard and Patton, HS 30 and Marder, "Abrams" and "Merkava", AMX 13 and battle tank "S", T-54/55 and T-62 and... and... and... Around 200 detailed colour profiles and selected historical colour and b/w photos illustrate vehicles and theatres of war. Organigrams, charts and tables clearly illustrate the structure of selected tank units of the opponents in the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, Middle East...
