On the eve of the Second World War, the surveillance of the endless south-western borders of Italian East Africa was entrusted to the activities of four frontier troops of about a thousand men, which depended on the government of Galla Sidama in peacetime and were assigned to the various divisions set up for operations against the neighbouring British "Dominions" at the outbreak of the war. The 2nd Border Defence Group "Akobo" was one of them. Under the command of around twenty Italian officers, men of various ethnicities and religions served in it.
