The opening of the Montafonerbahn from Bludenz to Schruns on 18 December 1905 led to a comprehensive improvement in mobility in the valley of the upper Ill. Thanks to the construction of several power plants and large industrial enterprises, as well as the rapid growth in winter tourism, the region became more and more accessible in terms of transport. The Montafonerbahn has been the backbone of its public transport ever since.
Peter Strasser, already known to many readers through his illustrated book "Schruns around 1920" and numerous other publications, documents the history of transport in the Montafon with over 200 mostly previously unpublished photos from public and private archives. They illustrate the more than 100-year development of the Montafonerbahn, but also provide insights into the works railways, roller coasters, cable cars, lifts, bus lines and even shipping in the valley. This book not only makes the hearts of friends of technology beat faster - it takes all readers on a nostalgic journey and sets a monument to both the railway and the entire region.
