On 16 July 1889, the Kamptal Railway was opened as a locomotive railway from Hadersdorf via Langenlois, Gars and Horn to Sigmundsherberg. This contributed decisively to the Kamptal developing into a popular place for excursions and summer retreats in a very short time. Even today, the Kamptalbahn forms the backbone of public transport in the region.
The authors, all residents of the Kamptal or the Horn basin, have been documenting the operation of the Kamptalbahn with loving attention to detail for years. With more than 140 previously unpublished photographs, they bring the eventful history of the railway, but also of the valley and its inhabitants, back to life. Besides the development of the infrastructure, such as locomotives, stations or bridges, the photographs also show the beauty of the places and landscapes along the line. This book takes the reader on a nostalgic railway journey to the Kamptal, which will not only make the hearts of railway enthusiasts beat faster. It invites you to remember, to rediscover and to marvel.
