Description
After almost 40 years of service in the North and Baltic Seas, U17 takes an unusual route on its last voyage: Across seas, canals, rivers and roads, 800 kilometres away, the technically complex transport leads on a floating pontoon to the Technik Museum Speyer. Later, the Class 206 A submarine will find its place in the Technik Museum Sinsheim.
The photographer of the Technik Museen Sinsheim Speyer, Sebastian Schnepper, accompanied the almost 50-metre-long and 500-tonne U17 on its exciting three-week journey - from Kiel through the North Sea, the Netherlands and across the Rhine to the cathedral city of Speyer. The spectacular photographs show the submarine in an unusual context and fascinate with surprising new perspectives on a maritime old-timer: past idyllic landscapes, large cities, picturesque villages and historical monuments.
