On 188 pages, we present in detail the history of all 27 civilian employees of the Bismarck. They were employed and worked on board as stewards and waiters, cooks and canteen salesmen, hairdressers, tailors and shoemakers. The new book offers an exciting insight into this previously little-illuminated area of the ship and crew. It tells the individual life stories of the employees, some of whom had previously travelled the world on passenger ships for a long time, had applied to the navy after a long career or directly after their vocational training, or had already been employed by the navy for years. Thanks to extensive surviving personnel files in the Federal Archives, it was possible to retrace the individual lives in detail and supplement the stories with pictures, drawings and documents.
