The Trafalgar Chronicle is the publication of choice for new research on the maritime world of the Georgian era from 1714 to 1837. This journal is renowned for its rich illustrations featuring 18th and 19th century artwork and for the remarkable credentials of its contributors, all of whom demonstrate a passion for naval history. The 2025 issue commemorates the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US Navy with the theme Naval Leadership in the Georgian Era. Here, readers will find essays on the unique and far-reaching ways in which naval officers and administrative officials of the age of sailing ships made important decisions and often took bold actions that affected their future, their men, their fleets, their enemies, their combat tactics and strategies, their policies and regulations, and naval doctrine itself. Historians from five countries have contributed biographical portraits of naval officers at sea who planned the disposition of their forces, prepared for battles, and adapted their tactics. Other articles include analyses of maritime leadership at the administrative level in relation to politics and international relations. Of general interest in this issue are five articles on rarely noticed gems of Royal Navy history in the Georgian era: miniature ships, swords and daggers, naval magazines of the time, and the impact of war on a small coastal community, as well as how the Royal Navy coped with the difficult task of establishing a garrison and gun emplacement on an island that was little more than a rock in the sea. Historical research requires travel, correspondence and hours spent studying relevant books, records, documents and newspapers, as well as searching for interrelated facts in archives, museums, churches, libraries and on websites. The contributors to the Trafalgar Chronicle perform these tasks in a manner that is commendable and greatly appreciated by all readers.
