Although camouflage colours were effective in real combat, their advantages were often diminished by dust and dirt on the battlefield. Combined with increased costs and labour, many vehicles were ultimately painted in a single colour. When modelling armoured combat vehicles, a single-colour paint job may seem easier only one colour is needed but when applied without modification, the result often looks flat and toy-like. This issue uses detailed step-by-step examples to explain how this flat impression can be overcome. Compared to camouflage paint schemes, which require a complex colour balance, single-colour paint schemes make it easier to adapt to weather conditions an ideal challenge for all model builders. We also introduce simple painting methods using spray cans and brush painting with water-based or acrylic paints, which are also suitable for those who do not own an airbrush system.
