Volume 29 of the series "Schriften des Heeresgeschichtlichen Museums (Wien)". From hereditary enmity to brotherhood in arms. Between these two extremes, the arc spans six and a half centuries of fateful relations between two multi-ethnic states. Thanks to their long common border, they were forced to face the challenges of their respective neighbours. Although both empires came into being at almost the same time and perished at the same time, they underwent completely different, even contradictory developments: The social, political and economic structures were diametrically opposed. These will be highlighted in this bilateral history.
