Descriptionof Domus Marienburg in Preußen. Eine Burg des Deutschen Ordens im Rechtecktypus

Writing a monograph on the Marienburg Conventual Castle, the monumental architectural work of the time of the crusades against the Prussians and Lithuania in the late Middle Ages, has always been a challenge for a castle researcher. In the case of Marienburg, the usual investigation of a castle - from the chapel to the latrine - always included the problem of the headquarters of the Teutonic Order in Prussia, thus an extraordinarily broad, largely allegorical area of research for which art history was responsible.
In contrast, the places within the ruined building that were once constructively closed presented themselves as a new opportunity for research in the more recent period, the time after the catastrophic destruction of the war in 1945. Thanks to several years of on-site research by the author, including studies on the architectural heritage of the era of the Crusades in Europe, especially on the former area of activity of the Teutonic Order in the Mediterranean including the Middle East, the conception of the development of the Marienburg as a unique castle building constructed in the Prussian rectangular type is presented here. The German-language version constitutes a corrected and updated version of the book published in Poland in 2014.
