In the United States, the heavy truck has been indispensable to the economy for decades (80% of goods are transported by road within the country). At the same time, it embodies the myth of the pioneer who conquered the land. The truck is thus a tool and represents a history shared by many Americans who harbor an unbridled passion for their mechanical heritage. However, the development of the truck was not uniform across the country. For a long time, there were local variations due to administrative restrictions, as each state initially had its own regulations regarding permissible gross vehicle weight and length limits. The rivalry between manufacturers on the East and West Coasts also significantly influenced the development of the American truck. This book aims to introduce you to the world of trucks manufactured in the USA by describing their history and the most important brands that have shaped them.
