Long established and yet comprehensively new, this is the 3rd edition of the "Coins of the Roman Republic" catalogue. It bears the subtitle "From the beginnings to the Principate (4th century BC to 27 BC)" because it now also includes the coinage of Octavian after the Battle of Actium up to the adoption of the name of Augustus. Furthermore, twenty-three coins that have become known in the meantime have been added to the 1762 numbers of the 1st edition. Also included in the catalogue for the first time are the coins of the War of the Covenanters (91 to 88 BC): The confederates issued their own coins modelled on Roman coinage to complete a republican collection. As usual, the catalogue offers compact information tailored to the needs of collectors. For many pieces there are additional numismatic or historical commentaries that explain the coin image and make it easier to understand. All cast and minted coins from the late 4th century BC onwards are recorded and valued with two prices. They are described in detail, including legends and possible variants, and most of them are also illustrated. The dating has been revised according to research carried out in recent years while retaining the existing numbering. The use of the catalogue is facilitated by concordances as well as a list of all mint masters and minting authorities and an index of legends.
