Description
The great drought in Sioux country continues. Rivers dry up, the bison herds stay away. The magic of the rainmaker proves too weak against the spirits of drought. The springs of Lake Manitou have apparently dried up. Instead of rain, covered wagon trains come and the white settlers want to take possession of the Indians' land. McNott is hired, but he does not know that against his will he is to help open the West to settlement. His death is part of the plan.
