Descriptionof WW2 Codebreaking. A Wartime Glossary. Band 3: Systems, Equipment and Deception
-
Manufacturer
The third volume in a series on code-breaking during the Second World War provides readers with an easy-to-understand overview and list of the methods, systems and devices used to collect and analyse military information during the war and beyond. A list is provided that outlines the development of code-breaking and the collection of enemy intelligence. While Bletchley Park was the headquarters of code-breaking during the war, numerous organisations were involved in a supporting role, which proved crucial when the Germans introduced more advanced encryption machines. The development of certain organisations over time can be traced to a certain extent by reading the glossary thoroughly. The text describes in detail the systems, devices and deceptions relevant to intelligence gathering and code-breaking, thus complementing the first two volumes in the series. The author has taken the time to ensure that the reader can more easily understand how the various systems and devices used during the Second World War enabled the gathering of military and other information and were used to decipher enemy messages. In some cases, special deception techniques were also used to mislead the enemy.
