Das KdF-Seebad der Zwanzigtausend auf Rügen.
On the east coast of Rügen, between Sassnitz and Binz, Adolf Hitler ordered the construction of a gigantic seaside resort for the Nazi organisation "Strength through Joy". Planned for 20,000 people, this site quickly developed into the largest construction site in the Reich. The shell was erected by 1939, but it was never completed. After the end of the war, the GDR People's Army used the site for itself and it became a restricted military area. Open to the public for the first time since the "Wende", the real estate speculators came along with the astonished holidaymakers. Jürgen Rostock (text) and Franz Zadnicek (pictures) reconstruct the history of this almost forgotten large-scale project of the Nazi era.
