Alfred Rosenberg joined the NSDAP at a very early age, became one of its most important spokesmen and was one of the masterminds of the National Socialist extermination policy. Volker Koop's biography follows the career of the Nazi regime's unscrupulous chief ideologue.
Alfred Rosenberg enjoyed his role as intellectual and chief ideologue of the National Socialists. But it was precisely this that made him particularly unpopular among the Nazi ruling elite. Intrigue and rivalry increased when Hitler appointed him 'the Fuehrer's representative for the supervision of all intellectual and ideological training and education of the NSDAP' and Rosenberg claimed extensive rights for himself in almost all areas. With the task force named after him and as 'Reich Minister for the Occupied Eastern Territories', he was primarily concerned with the Europe-wide looting of art and cultural assets. He remained true to his fundamental anti-Semitic convictions until his execution in 1946. In view of Rosenberg's many offices and the extensive stock of documents, including the diaries found in 2013, Volker Koop's biography focuses on Rosenberg's unwavering ideological thinking and reveals the discrepancy between his excessive egomania and his actual influence.
